Piranha Gear Rocks! Jul 26, 2010 I did a mass order on Amazon from a few different companies for MMA gear. The shin guards from Piranha were the first to arrive (less than 48 hours from my order) with a personal letter from the management thanking me for my purchase. I have to say that was a classy touch. However, that would be a moot point if the gear was poor quality. I have to admit the shin guards live up to the hype. They don't slip, offer great protection while taking a beating, and fit comfortably (no digging into my skin and such). Therefore, with their top notch customer service and attention to quality, Piranha is my go to company for now on when purchasing new gear.
love it Jul 13, 2010 been doing Thai kickboxing for about 7 months. turned a lot of heads with these both in and out the ring haha. feel great and the material reminded me of that scuba diving material. it's real tough and the pads are triple stitched, so they should hold up for a bit. only complain was i bought them a size to big but that's my fault,
DK Jun 22, 2010 Superior product. Ships and arrived extremely quickly, it took 2 days to arrive on Long Island New York from California. On another note I highly recommend these for Muay Thai. They are extremely durable and remain tight on the shin. I got the mediums and they fit great for my size (5'8 150 lbs). You are not going to find better guards for a cheaper price.
Great so far! May 21, 2010 The first thing I noticed when I first took the guards out of the box was that they looked a bit... cheap? There are a few loose threads and some of the blue backing was peeking out from behind the padded portion of the shin guards, so at first I was a bit leery. When I tried them on, they were a little too big for me -- I'm a very petite Asian girl, so even with a size small they're loose around the calves (but that's mostly due to my having stick legs). When tied on, though, they don't slip down at all, though they do get pushed around a bit during training, since I lack the bulk to keep them from fitting snugly. As for how they hold up in actual training, they're very effective in terms of shock absorbency, better than what I had expected when I first saw them. The padding is really thick very dense and not at all flimsy, though the shin guards themselves are pretty light. The fact that they don't have back straps, either, is advantageous; a lot of the other guys are constantly bending down to re-affix their velcro straps. I never have to do that, the most I ever do is nudge them back towards the center of my shin.
I'm definitely glad I purchased these over shelling out lots more money for Fairtex gear, because while Fairtex has the obvious reputation...it doesn't change the fact they're really, really pricey. For doing Muay Thai on a budget, these are definitely functional. Will definitely recommend them to my classmates.
Also still have the handwritten note that came in the box... D'aww.
Two Thumbs Way Up!!! May 20, 2010 Great product, great company. I've kicked the crap out of the heavy-bag with these shin guards, and they still look new.....
