Description:

These are THE Piranha Gear boxing gloves. Constructed of fine quality leather to hold up to hundreds of hours on the bag or ring. They are made using injection molded| high density foam. This means their seams are not stressed when you're striking the bag (or your partner) and they'll last way longer. That also means the padding is much more comfortable for your hands.

These gloves were made to fit someone that would normally use a Large or X-Large. Very wide velcro / elastic strap and large slit opening makes them very easy to put on and take off (but still offers plenty of support when closed).

At a very precise 16 oz each| they are specifically designed to be used for serious workouts and sanctioned fights. British style - with a thumb tie (which keeps your thumb tied to your forefinger - required by many associations to prevent detached retinas).

Features:
  • Top of the line leather training gloves

  • Injection molded, high density foam

  • Velcro closure (so you're not stuck with "one wrist fits all")

  • Thumb tie for safety

4My review is on the fit of the gloves  Nov 02, 2009
By Joku
Since there aren't any ratings on this and since I've tried these gloves on and I own a pair of the blue ones, I'll help out.

I tried these on without wraps and they were too tight on my hands. I measured my hand for this review and my hand from knuckle to knuckle is 3 1/2" wide and about 7 1/4" long from wrist to the end of my middle finger(my longest finger).

My hand was being choked in the glove, because of the width of my hand, so if you're hand is my width or larger, get the blue pair(XL) - especially if you're going to wear wraps.

If your measurement from wrist to longest finger is longer than 7 1/2", I'd recommend getting the blue gloves(XL).

I haven't actually used these gloves, so I can't review on the usage, but they seem decent and at least comparable to my Everlast gloves.

Piranha Gear let me ship these gloves back and get the blue/black gloves that were my size. They gave me no hassle and plenty of assistance. My experience with their customer service is great and by reading other reviews, I expected this even before I placed an order with them.

4Excellent Thai style boxing gloves, great quality, value, and function.  Jul 15, 2011
By Gowtham Mahalingam
This is a review for the gloves specifically and not the merchant Piranha Gear (on a side note Piranha Gear, as a merchant, is probably one of, if not the, best merchant I have dealt with on Amazon)

Okay the gloves. I purchased them about a month ago, and use them every day, often twice a day, for about 20 to 40 minutes, in sparring, focus mitt, heavy bag, and speed bag drills. The gloves have settled in and I have had enough time in them to yield a review. I will briefly write on the design/aesthetic then cover the build quality in depth, finally commenting on value.

Design: The gloves are pretty and feature smooth matte leather that is durable yet supple enough to allow some amount of tactile feedback through the palm and back of the hand. I like the yellow colour and overall design/look of the glove. The striped velcro band is also thought out nicely. It is thick and wide and covers a significant portion of the wrist giving an added stability to the wrist wrap portion of the glove. The logos are nice (but I kind of wish there was no logo on the leather of the glove) but pretty much every glove is tattooed with the manufacturers emblem.

Build Quality: Granted I have only been using the gloves for a month, so I am not yet able to comment on the true longevity of the gloves. However I do use them every day and the build quality thus far is excellent. The stitching is doubled up, and very focused, with no bad stitches or worn stitches despite the beating I put them through. The gloves are lined with a satiny kind of black liner, which is really comfortable. Sometimes I find there to be too much liner material in the finger tip area (this may be a sizing issue which I will comment on later) and it sometimes bunches around my fingers. This isn't actually a problem and does not cause any functional detriment, but I do notice liner material bunching between my pinky and ring finger from time to time. I haven't had any issues with liner rips, pilling, or discolouration as I have had with other gloves. I, just as every other user of gloves, sweat profusely into my boxing gloves. I find the liner to be fairly capable of dealing with the moisture and haven't had puddles in my gloves. My wraps do come out of the gloves fairly soaked though. The liner and design of the gloves seems capable of airing out and evaporating the sweat and the smell. I hang up the gloves to dry every day, and occasionally stuff an old tube sock with cedar chips into the gloves to absorb up smell and moisture. No problems yet. The thumb attachment is quite sturdy and doesn't have any signs of wear. The padding is also equally thick, well placed, and does not slip, bunch, or move as I have had happen with some other gloves. Finally the velcro strap is of excellent quality and is a very thick weaved semi-elastic material that doesn't seem like it will lose its elasticity and is very secure and firm.

Sizing: This is the only issue I have had with the glove, and is the only reason I didn't give it a 5 stars (I would have rated 4.5/5 if I could on Amazon) I have moderately large hands, from the crease of my wrist to the tip of middle finger is 8 and 3/4 inches, and my palm is 4 inches wide. Thus based on the sizing chart and the recommendations of other reviewers I chose the extra large gloves. Length-wise the gloves are appropriate, however I think their is a bit too much room in the tip/finger box of the gloves. When I wear wraps it isn't much of an issue, however if I just put my hands in the gloves my fingers have a bit too much freedom. This issue continues with the wrist wrap. I may have somewhat of a long and slender hand type but I wish the velcro on the strap was longer. I would like to pull the velcro tighter around my wrist and secure it, however there is no room on the velcro roll to accommodate a tighter wrap. Thus if I pull the velcro to my desired tightness I am left with a flap of unsecured strap on this inside of my wrist. This was an easy fix though; I bought some heavy duty velcro, cut it to match the size of the included velcro, and with the help of my friend and her sewing machine, elongated the velcro attachment strip on the glove.
I am not sure if ordering a size large would have been better for me, or if it would have been too short for my hand length.

Value: These gloves might be the best bang for your buck value on Amazon. I have used a number of other gloves, including Everlast, Windy, and Twins gloves. These gloves are of superior quality to the other Everlast gloves I have owned and even rival my Everlast lace-ups which cost nearly twice as much. I haven't owned Windy or Twins gloves, but have used them at my gym a number of times, these gloves are very similar in style and fit to those gloves, and I actually prefer the padding and leather on my Piranha gloves, and they were about 20 USD cheaper than the aforementioned brands equivalent offerings.

Summary: I am relatively new to Thai Boxing, and these are the first Thai-style gloves I have owned. I enjoy the sport considerably, train hard, and tax my equipment. These gloves are excellent, have great build quality, are very economic, and are a true value purchase.

5love there!!  May 02, 2011

I do kickboxing several times a week and have used these gloves for several months now. They continue to have good support and comfortable cushoning for heavy bag work, the leather is good quality. The 16oz give a slight bit of extra conditioning for the arms. I always wear them with wraps to absorb sweat but the inside still gets wet, but it dries quickly. The stitching is good quality for leather, you can tell these gloves were put together for durability. The fish on the gloves with the colors are cool. I look forward to a long time with there well made gloves.

4First thoughts - great gloves but not very long  May 13, 2010

This review is for the XL size - I knew I would have to exchange my yellow L size gloves for the Blue XL within 10 seconds. I would say that compared to my Title gloves these gloves are "short". The width wasn't bad but my fingertips hit the end of the glove. I'm not a big guy (5'10", 7" hands from heel to fingertip) but I needed the XL size. Fortunately Piranha Gear has a great return policy and I got my bigger gloves within a few days. So now that I have the right size I can review the gloves themselves...

I haven't had them gloves long enough to give a definitive review; For that I'll see how they've held up in 6 months. First impressions are all positive though - the boxers at my gym (Bad to the Bonz in Modesto California) were impressed with the quality at the price point and they felt comfortable right out of the box. They definitely feel both more cushioned than the Title gloves I've had before... They look and feel great - now I'll just wait to see how they fare over time.
