comfortable and protective Sep 24, 2008
By Blume
"Trial and error"
I've used the foam standard shoes and after wearing out another set I looked around for something different. As the other reviewer points out, sometimes full foot protection is a good thing.
Protection wise and comfort wise, they seem great. I've always in the past gotten bruised on the top of the foot right between shoe and shin and these go up a tad higher. The ankle is protected firmly as well.
Stink and duration factor is to be determined.
Size wise, I got the small, being between a small/medium officially. The small fits fine so if you are in doubt, go for the smaller size. Remember you aren't wearing socks!
I don't think the toe loops are that great, I tried a few practice kicks with them on. But no loss as the shoe fit doesn't need it. Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it!
Ps: there's two loops on the inside, so each shoe can be worn either right or left with the loop which means no fumbling to figure out how to put it on, if you do choose to use the toe loop. Or I guess you can stick some other toes in though that seems to be a recipe for a broken toe.

The ONLY good footgear on the market Mar 24, 2008
By Matthew D'avanzo Like most people, I hate wearing footgear and find shin/instep pads much more comfortable. That's fine for competition, but if you're practicing with your dojomates or sparring with your students, you'd should really use a little extra protection for them.
Unlike other footgear, they don't shift in place at all; you don't even need to use the toe tabs inside. The insides stay relatively dry too, instead of turning into a big sloppy sweaty mess like foam-dipped Macho gear. Your entire foot maintains contact with floor surface, which is a major plus. The padding is much thicker than normal, despite the boot feeling much lighter on your foot.
I'm so enthusiastic about these because I've tried so many different footpads over the years and these are the first ones I've ever liked.
(Their customer service is good too, for the record.)
These kicks are awesome! Apr 12, 2011
By Susan Berkheimer These kicks are so comfortable, once on, I don't even notice that they are there. The fit is great, they "hug" my feet and offer complete ankle and heel protection. No more sores on the balls of my feet from vinyl straps rubbing and no more slipping on the mat when I pivot. The toe strap does tend to slip off my toe, but they feel just as secure on my feet with or w/o the toe strap in use. The quality of the material and construction is outstanding. I highly recommend these. LOVE THEM!
Couldn't be better! Mar 29, 2010
By Gladys These pads are awesome! I have been doing Martial arts for 11 yrs and have recently changed over to the point fighting system in which you have to wear boots. Because of my style of fighting I'm always on the balls of my feet when I fight and the old booties i used to wear made me slide all over the place!! I thought I'd never find a style of pads that would work for my style of fighting.... till I saw these! They are great! Well padded, and the loop goes over your big toe! For those of you that fight on the balls of your feet like me, this is a God sent! No more slipping and sliding!! I Competed in them on Saturday and won! These are great!! So worth the money! They also seem well made, and that they will last.
Best booties ever! Mar 18, 2010
By T. J. La Tourette Best booties ever! No cheap vinyl straps on the bottom, good stretch-cloth strap. High-quality foam. Straps well placed so you have total contact with the floor on ball of foot and heel, right where you need it, as advertised. The XL's fit me great and I'm a size 12 shoe. I recommend going large on size, I've personally injured my toes wearing too-small booties, like when they only have L size in other brands. Nice 'blank slate' look to do your own design on as well! These are my new training and tournament booties.
