Great starter hakama Mar 25, 2010
I was a little concerned when I saw the low price for this hakama. Definitely cheaper than any other cotton hakama I saw out there. When it arrived, it looked better than I expected, it was in great shape, and even came with instructions on how to fold and care for it.
I've used this hakama for my Aikido training for nearly 2 years now, and I love the way it still feels. It moves lightly, is easy to care for, and is surprisingly a lot sturdier than the "light weight" moniker would lead you to believe, particularly in the koshiita, which often breaks down fairly quickly on lower quality hakamas.
My only caveat is - like all 100% cotton hakamas - you must be extra careful to maintain the folds and creases, or you will quickly lose your seams. Also, occasional ironing is a must, particularly since this is a lightweight skirt, which often lose their folds faster than their heavyweight bretheren.
I recently purchased a tetron hakama from Tozando at over twice the price last year, and even though it has pre-folded seams, I really don't like it very much, especially compared to my e-bogu cotton version. Although I will be upgrading to an expensive Iwata heavyweight cotton hakama next year (at 8-10 times the price of this one mind you!), I am definitely going to purchase another one of these bad boys as well.
To summarize, think of the e-bogu lightweight cotton hakama like a Honda Civic. It's nothing that is going to wow you at first, but you'll be surprised at the great quality at a low price, and how much mileage you can squeeze out of it.

Well made hakama with excellent quality. The best price/quality ratio. It comes with strings attached... you have to remove them to use the hakama. The sizing chart from e-Bogu let you find your size in a breeze. Great fit and comfortable.

I was looking for a light weight 100% cotton hakama. The hakama I bought from e-Bogu was exactly what I was looking for and with good quality at a great price. Their sizing chart made it easy to buy the right size. This was a great shopping experience.
