Entry level gloves for light use Feb 01, 2010

I ordered a pair of these in 16oz through MMA Warehouse back in September for Muay Thai bag work and pad work, initially doing about 3-4 hours of classes a week.
New, they are comfortable, provide good padding protection for your hands, and the leather coverings are durable enough to be used for clinch work with the tear drop bags with some abrasion of the leather. Had some doubts about the use of elastic bands for the wrist wraps (durability), but they held up fine through normal use.
During the first few months of use, these gloves performed well enough with hand wraps underneath. Decent wrist support, never any issues with knuckles lacking in padding and didn't hold odors from sweat provided they are fully dried out between sessions.
By late December I had doubled up on my training time, spending about 5 hrs a week boxing and an additional 5 for Muay Thai. Once the gloves started seeing heavier use and soaking up more sweat, the padding started to slowly break down (crumble). By late January, the padding in one glove has degraded so much through use that they are no longer safe to use for contact sparring. The coverings show significant wear, but have held up fine without stitches popping or any tearing. Unfortunately, the gloves can only be used for bag and pad work as the protection is pretty much compromised for any sort of contact drills.
So, light use only and keep them dry between sessions or you can expect to see them start falling apart within 5 months. Anyone training in the range of 10 hours a week is going to need better gloves than these, so don't expect them to hold up under those conditions.
