I've been searching for safetgard sliders for two years to replace my daughters' old ones. I have bought and returned (or eaten the cost) many inferior makes during that time. I finally thought to contact the company and they told me about Amazon for sports gear. Just in time--I was about to go to foam dog bedding and duct tape to repair the old ones. These are the best and the only ones the girls like. The velcro makes a huge difference in fit and stability. I don't know what the other reviewer was was saying about size. My 5'10" slender but not skinny 16-year-old wears the small. My 5'5" 140 lb. 14-year-old powerhouse wore a large, but I've purchased her medium in the both the long and short version. If they don't fit, I'll revise this.
PS--This is the only product review I've ever written. I'm just recently appreciating the convenience of the amazing Amazon.

I have bought large size softball slider pads before but the problem I had was that the band at the top bit into my daughters legs. I thought the velcro straps would be a good thing and make it work. This part of the pad I do love. It fits great. The part I do not love however is that the lower part of the pad is like it is made for a hockey player. When she wears them, she looks like she is ready to go out onto the ice and protect the net. That totally defeats the purpose for softball slider pads. you't run in pads that big much less slide in pads that will slid up your leg instead of protecting it.
I know that the product said large when I ordered it. However, in the sports stores, I have always bought my daughter the size large and the band at the top was the only problem so I bought the large thinking the only difference would be that it had the addition of a strap that could be loosened or tightened as needed.

I ordered these for my husband who works on equipment in a machine shop. He has to get down on his knees alot and has fallen several times working on equipment where it banged up his shins so bad he could hardly walk the next day. I finally ordered these and he was reluctant to be bothered with them. I should have gotten him the medium....even though he weighs 175, he has thin legs, but I got the large because that was what was recommeded for adults, and the shin part is a bit too big. But I convinced him to at least try them and he's now hooked on them. They make a huge difference in his day when he does not have to be resting on his knees on bare concrete, and the next time he gets it in the shins, I'm sure he'll think they're worth their wieght in gold. And he is so glad that he is able to wear them under his work uniform with no problem. I think they run a bit big, but other than that, they're wonderful.

but .. its only one guard ... soo.. buy 2

but if you have extreemly fat legs.... yea dont buy it

These leg guards were exactly what we wanted for my daughter to play fast-pitch softball, however after one game they started to come apart at the seams. Then the threads were getting caught up in the velcro which made it much worse. I think they could have done a little better job putting them together. Size is true to fit. My daughter is a thin tall 9 yr old and wears a 10/12 but I wanted them to last longer so I ordered her a larger size than it suggested, with the velcro she has no problems making them tight enough and they cover her from above the knee to her ankle. This way she can slide and also not get hurt by those stray balls when batting.
