In my martial arts training being able to go all out and lay into your sparring partner is often frowned upon. I recall trying to use pool-noodles to fence with my friends, but you could never adequately block an incoming attack, because the foam offered no rigidity. I had the privelege to work with the swords and staves of Actionflex in the dojo and was really impressed with the durability (I've sparred with others and they broke or fell apart in single bouts). You should know that the picture isn't particularly accurate, because they've improved the safety and made the entire staff covered in foam so you aren't limited in striking area. The earlier models I'm used to (and prefer, for the grip) have a grip area in the middle that is too hard to strike someone you want to be friends with afterward (and I've seen many people crush fingers and draw blood when their staves meet in a deadlock). As soon as I have a sparring partner I intend to purchase the other varieties. I could've bought any other product, but I bought this one for the Battle of Columbus World Games because its the best(and got 1st for weapon sparring), but guess what? Everyone had an Actionflex.

For a family of martial arts students, the Action Flex line of staffs and swords is a blast. We have small battles on the lawn, and large ones in the living room. Soft and flexible, they make a great noise but don't hurt if you thump your friends. This is a great product. thank you!!!
