Excellent quarterstaff substitute Mar 26, 2007
By Ariel Segall I ordered this product for use in an English quarterstaff class. Although it's a little short for my ideal quarterstaff length (7' would be better), it's otherwise pretty close to perfect. It has a wider diameter than the rattan bo staves that some of my fellow classmates have, which makes it both more historically accurate and more comfortable to hold. It's extremely sturdy, and the red oak has plenty of weight and momentum. The finish is smooth enough that I don't worry about splinters during grip-sliding exercises, and only has a couple of small flaws. It's only been heavily used in one class so far, so I can't testify to how much punishment it will take in the long term.
If this staff has a flaw, it's that it's *too* nice; this thing is a weapon, and shouldn't be mistaken for anything else. It's a joy to use, but practice with care.

Fine Bo Sep 02, 2007
By C. Alexander This is a fine, very sturdy oak bo. The only caveat would be that the diameter of this bo makes it more suitable for larger hands. But otherwise, a great staff.

hardwood bo Feb 07, 2007
By Hitome This is a nice, six-foot hardwood bo. It is appropriate for traditional martial arts practice and a good weight. I have not had any problems with it.

Not worth it Feb 05, 2010
By Andrew Bragg Mine broke within the first hour of use, and I was being very gentle. These look good, but are very brittle.

Intentional Ripoff? Sep 21, 2011
By Damien G. The item was received on time, but is unusable. For starters... this thing can't be oak or a similarly hard wood. It's too light, but that is the least of my issues. This Bo Staff has 6 separate knots in it which were filled in with wood filler prior to lacquering. It is also warped. I bought this 'hardwood bo' because I need a weapon that could be used for contact as well form. This stick, because or the knots and warpage is suitable for neither. The worst thing about this is how blatantly obvious the flaws are in this thing. So blatant in fact that the manufacturing company made an effort to cover holes with putty. IT WAS OBVIOUSLY DONE BY HAND! There is no concealing the warpage, it's so bad that the staff won't roll at all on a flat surface. Even if the seller did not manufacture the product a 10 second inspection prior to sale should have told them not to sell it. But, they did anyway. So did they send this thing to me on purpose? If I thought it worth my time or money I would ship this thing right back. As it stands, I should be paid a service fee for the time and effort it will take me to fit this 6 foot de-barked and ill finished tree sapling in my garbage pale for pickup.
Bottom line... On the manufacturer's end this item is a malicious and blatant attempt to sell something substandard. On the seller's end this is gross negligence at the least and total disregard for product quality and truth in advertising. All told, ultimately a ripoff tantamount to theft. Both should be ashamed.
